Scoreboard- A Timeless Lesson for Entrepreneurs …..

Games are won by players who focus on the playing field, not those whose eyes are glued to the scoreboard.” – Warren Buffett

This quote always reminds me of Sachin Tendulkar.

What made Sachin legendary wasn’t just his records—it was his mindset. He wasn’t chasing milestones; he was committed to the game, ball by ball. After every innings, he would introspect, identify mistakes, and work on getting better. That focus on the process—not the outcome—is what made him exceptional.

And this philosophy holds an important lesson for entrepreneurs.

In business, the scoreboard often reflects revenues, profits, and valuations. But true success lies in mastering the playing field—your ideas, products, services, and customer experience.

Entrepreneurs must continuously ask:

• How can I improve what I offer?

• What problems am I solving?

• How do I add more value to my customers?

When money becomes the central focus, especially when managed poorly or pursued for personal gain, the venture risks collapse. Instead, if you stay focused on excellence and purpose, money and success follow naturally.

As the Bhagavad Gita beautifully states:

“कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन।

मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि॥”

(You have a right to perform your duties, but not to the fruits thereof.)

When your energy is devoted to the work, not the reward, success flows organically. Excellence attracts results. Focus builds momentum.

So, whether you’re building a startup or leading an enterprise—

Master the game. Stay on the field. The scoreboard will follow.
